Polycarbonate is one of the most widely and popularly used thermoplastic materials used today for both residential and commercial roofing. This is because of its number of benefits like being able to withstand high impact, being durable and flexible, being easily thermoformed, being able to withstand all kinds of weather conditions, being fire resistant, and being light in weight. These are the most important qualities one checks for while choosing a material for constructing a structure. Since polycarbonates are very strong and durable in themselves, they need no reinforcement in the roofing structure or walls, which ultimately reduces the construction costs significantly. Moreover, polycarbonates are so flexible that they can be easily and inexpensively modified to create a number of roofing designs. Thus, whether you need a peaked roof or a circular dome or anything else in terms of design, you can highly rely on polycarbonate roofing sheets. Clear polycarbonate and foam back polycarbonate are the most common types of polycarbonates used in the construction of roofing. Both these types of materials have their own advantages and disadvantages. Let us take a look. Clear polycarbonate Clear polycarbonate sheets look very professional. With a wide variety of colours in polycarbonate available in the market, people generally opt for clear polycarbonate when they are planning to build greenhouses, sum rooms, skylights and solariums. Basically, these sheets are used in places where natural sun light is needed. These clear sheets come in a variety of shapes and designs, where you can get unlimited options to choose from. Moreover, they come with a V protection layer that reflects the harmful UV rays of the sun, while bringing in almost all of the sun’s light; thus prolonging the service life of the roof. Manufacturers of these clear polycarbonate sheets are constantly improving on the quality of their products so that they can make them more efficient and cost-effective, while providing the best of qualities and benefits. One such improvement is the aerogel insulation, where the gel acts as a thermal insulator to harmonize the thermal insulation property of polycarbonate, by helping to eliminate the scorching heat from the sun. These sheets help to maintain the temperature of the room they cover at a constant level, thus saving on energy costs due to no heat gain or loss. Foam back polycarbonate Another type of polycarbonate is the foam back polycarbonate sheet that is available in a variety of shapes and designs, in colours like red, green and grey. These sheets can dampen noise and provide extra insulation, while being cost-effective and light in weight. The foam back polycarbonate sheets resemble corrugated metal roofing materials, and are mainly used in industrial warehouses as well as residential homes for both flat and sloped roofs. Check for manufacturers that offer warranty on the polycarbonate sheets that they put up for sale. The validity of warranty may vary from one manufacturer to another ranging between 2 to 5 years. Longer warranty periods generally mean that the polycarbonate roofing sheets are of better quality.

It's fascinating how foam sheets could work as a roofing option that can protect your home from weather elements. I first learned about this term after receiving a roofing flyer while doing groceries. My brother can probably use this suggestion since he's planning to build his dream home this year.

Thank you for pointing out that, despite the great range of colors available in polycarbonate, consumers typically choose clear polycarbonate when they want to construct greenhouses, sum rooms, skylights, and solariums. My mother wants a window on the roof. I'll advise her to have a commercial skylight installation professional put in the house.
